Sunburners!

The photos below show leaves immediately after treatment, the objective being to wilt the green leaves (not incinerate them).  Thumb prints should be visible after pressing a treated leaf between thumb and forefinger.

Quality Tools for
Vegetation Management Professionals

Sunburst offers the best and most effective thermal weed control tools available anywhere.  Our innovative and patented technologies and equipment have been carefully designed and engineered based on extensive field experience with many common vegetation management settings and their requirements, from pioneering infestations of noxious weeds to industrial sites, school grounds, railways, roadsides, parks and a variety of other features and circumstances where weed control is an important function.  This has provided the opportunity to develop an array of unique tools; tools that are highly effective and efficient, include options for both small and large scale operations, and built to last while being easy to maintain. Owners will find that savings in labor and fuel will return their investment in our American made products.

Our latest tool, the SpHot Weeder™, is a major innovation in hand held torches for flaming weeds.  This revolutionary design brings advanced precision and much greater economy to one of the oldest and most widely used thermal tools in the marketplace.  It also takes hazard management of open flaming to a whole new level, providing the user with significantly enhanced control of unintended, off-target impacts.

Introducing the SpHot Weeder™ and our Farm-to-Market variations that utilize multiple SpHot Weeder baskets on a manifold that can be tractor or trailer mounted.

  • Simple and Easy to use
  • Low Maintenance
  • Easy Care & Storage
  • Accessible Parts

These photos demonstrate how the SpHot Weeder's flame containment system captures and directs the flames and heat to the ground and forward.  Coordination of the length of the flame and the height of the basket ensures the hottest part of the flame is focused precisely at ground level, making the treatment extremely intense and highly effective.  This is a revolutionary advancement over traditional open flame torches.

Farm-to-Market Thermal Weeder

Market Farm Two Basket Setup  Market Farm Two Basket Setup

Sunburst's latest tool for Farm-to-Market growers! A simple, low-cost, highly efficient & effective "Bed Crop" flamer.  Highest quality, nearly all stainless steel.  Used for killing seedling weeds post bed prep and pre-crop emergence.  Available in 2, 3, or 4 Basket configurations.  Attaches to your tool bar.  Saves labor & costs for weed control.

UPCOMING:  Big
SpHot Weeder™ basket set-up for large scale farming for bed crops, row crops, & broadcast treatments is currently under research and development.  Watch our website and Facebook page for future announcements.

Each basket produces, contains, and directs 300,000 BTU's to the ground within its "footprint". The sloped frame causes the thermal energy from the burners (flames & hot air) to strike the ground at an angle, where it bounces across the ground and out the front of the basket. The front opening wraps around each side slightly, creating an impact area a bit more than the width of the frame to ensure overlap in treatment.

Practices and Benefits:
  • Kill seedling weeds outright in one treatment.  Control established plants with a few treatments at 10-14 day intervals.
  • Kills many seeds on the soil surface.
  • Incinerate treated, dead debris for clean site appearance.
  • Similarly useful for cleaning up dead vegetation in the Fall.
  • Manage or regulate vegetative growth where plant cover is needed but control of height and density is desirable (e.g., storm water channels; culvert openings).  “Thermal Mowing” can be an economical and beneficial management practice.
  • Routine application of flaming treatments provides increasing benefits over time!

Mid-size Models

The Push Cart is for small-scale applications; the Wagon is larger and pulled by hand (inquire about modifications for towing behind an ATV or similar vehicle).  Our carefully engineered and tested small and mid-size models are powerful and effective!

Both configurations come with a Sunburst Thermal Deck and mounting carriage, seven gallon water tank with 12 volt pumping system and switch-activated water spray, throttle-controlled flame with pilot light, propane pressure regulator and hosing.  Supply your own standard propane tank due to shipping and re-sale restrictions.
